South Londoners Vanity (formerly Vanity Draws Blood) impressed with their 2016 EP, ‘Perspective // Dread’; an effort that showed their prowess in brutal breakdowns and dual vocal performance. The atmospheric metal six-piece are back with the second release in their ‘Perspective’ series: ‘Perspective // Empathy’.
The 5-track metalcore offering is vicious and attacks with melodies and riffs throughout. We caught up with the band who filled us in with a track-by-track guide to ‘Perspective // Empathy’.
It sets the scene and atmosphere for the new EP, creating an emotional and sorrowful vibe. It joins ‘Perspective // Dread’ and ‘Perspective // Empathy’ seamlessly so that one EP flows from one to the other and echoes the final lyrics of the last EP’s closer, ‘Exorcism’.
The loss of a loved one can be an extremely difficult situation to come to terms with. This track focuses on the heart-breaking realisation of never being able to be with them again and missing them grow old, as well as the agonising regret of not being there when they needed you most.
A love song. Being completely infatuated with someone to the point of delusion. Feeling lost without them and not seeing a life outside of the world you have created. However, when this deteriorates and you are forced to accept a life without them, nothing can stem the pain.
Coming to terms with an illness that could completely change your life and the life of so many of those around you. Finding a way through the pain and finding hope and comfort from those around you. Changing your complete aspect on life and the world.
The world is in a state of unrest and uncertainty, with corrupt media censoring news events, terrorist attacks, and dictators being given the power to govern and pollution destroying the environment. ‘Affinity’ plays on the frustration of a nation who have lost their connection with each other, and the world that we live in.
The band’s forthcoming EP, ‘Perspective // Empathy’, is scheduled for release on September 22nd 2017, and you can pre-order it online now via iTunes (here).
