STRAIGHT OUTTA: Brazil (Ego Kill Talent)

Brazilian rockers Ego Kill Talent have been brushing shoulders with rock behemoths Foo Fighters, Queens Of The Stone Age and Shinedown over their first few years of touring, and were even ready for a tour with Metallica and Greta Van Fleet pre-COVID. The band elected to split their full-length The Dance Between Extremes into three EPs; the third EP has now dropped and we’ve got a full record to get our teeth stuck into.

We caught up with vocalist Jonathan Dörr to talk about some of the best bands from Brazil that may have slipped under our radar.

VIOLET SODA

From: São Paolo, Brazil

Violet Soda resembles the cool bands from the 90’s fronted by girls like: Garbage, L7 and Elastika. Singer Karen Dió, has a beautiful voice and a great charisma. Listen to the delightful ‘Tangerine’.

FAR FROM ALASKA

From: Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil

A very unlike band from the north of Brazil. The powerful riffs from Rafael Brasil’s guitar carve the perfect road for the amazing singer Emmily Barreto that counts with the help of the talented Cris Botarelli on the backing vocals. Listen to ‘Collision Course’ a collaboration of Ego Kill Talent & Far From Alaska.

ANGRA

From: São Paolo, Brazil

The veterans of Angra are a must when we talk about Brazilian bands that made it abroad. The band was formed during the 90’s and it’s still active. Kiko Loureiro (guitar for Megadeth) alongside Raphael Bittencourt made history within this band. Listen to the albums: ‘Angels Cry’ and ‘Holy Land’.

PROJECT46

From: São Paolo, Brazil

One of the new faces in heavy metal in Brazil, these guys sound killer! Listen to the album: ‘Tr3s’ and ‘Tr3s (English Version)’

RANN

From: Brooklyn, USA

A Brazilian band based in Brooklyn, NYC. They are a mix of rock, dream pop and punk, full of textures and experimentations. Listen to ‘In The Basement’.
