Going forward under a name change and a revamp of their sound, Crewe’s Blitz Kids are one of Cheshire’s most recent rising acts in the alternative music scene, and have steadily made their presence known since the release of their debut music video and single, ‘An Ink Blot In The Blood Clot’. With a worthy set on the Kerrang! Introducing stage at this year’s Slam Dunk Festival and debut full-length ‘Vagrants & Vagabonds’ to follow soon after, vocalist Joe James had a little talk with us about things to come in the Blitz Kids camp:
Zach: How are you guys looking forward to your sets at Slam Dunk Festival this year?
Joe: There were four big shows we’ve been looking forward to since we confirmed this tour; Manchester Academy 2, London Koko and the two Slam Dunk dates. We played London last night and Manchester before that, so now our sights are firmly on Slam Dunk this weekend.
Zach: You’re performing on the Kerrang! Introducing stage alongside the likes of Lower Than Atlantis, Don Broco and Francesqa, how does it feel to be sharing a stage with those bands?
Joe: Lower Than Atlantis are a great band, we have a lot of respect for them. It’s one of the strongest stages this year.
Zach: You also played a set at Hit The Deck Festival in Nottingham earlier this year, how did that show go for you?
Joe: It was amazing. One girl told me she didn’t think anyone would be watching us (charming), so she turned up late and couldn’t get in! It was rammed and the atmosphere was immense. Still one of my favourite shows to date.
Zach: Will there be much of your new album material in your Slam Dunk set?
Joe: Oh, fo’ sho’!
Zach: For those who may not have listened to your music yet, how would you best describe your sound?
Joe: Bored of listening to watered down versions of your favourite bands? If so, check us out!
Zach: Why should people going to Slam Dunk this year come and check out your set?
Joe: We’re on early.
Zach: Will you guys be chilling out at the aftershow party once all the bands have finished up?
Zach: What else is planned for Blitz Kids once Slam Dunk is all over?
Joe: We’re carrying on with the Mayday Parade tour. All of the guys and girls on this tour are so sweet. It’s going to blow when it’s all over.
Zach: Is there anything else you’d like to add or share with our readers?
Joe: Blitz Kids never die.
