Broken Records isn’t a name you’d expect a band to adopt, but you also wouldn’t expect a band to consist of as many members as it does either – seven in total. ‘Lies’ is therefore a labour of work from a – in some respects – original band.
‘Lies’ seems like something that is a bit confused and rushed, with no actual proper structure forming straight away upon first listen. There’s far too much going on in the song, that you have to actually really think hard to comprehend what’s happening. By the time you have done so too, the song comes off uninteresting, making all that complex effort that masks ‘Lies’ a little pointless.
Technicality and complexity is always refreshing and appreciated, but in cases such as these, it isn’t always a winning formula.
