NEWS: Vinnie Paul (Pantera / Hellyeah / Damageplan) has died, aged 54!

It has been confirmed that Vinnie Paul, the drummer for Pantera, Hellyeah, and Damageplan, has tragically passed away at the age of 54.

According to reports, Paul‘s body was found in his home in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 22nd 2018.

The news of Vinnie Paul‘s death was announced via Pantera‘s official Facebook page on June 23rd 2018, which you can read below.

“Vincent Paul Abbott aka Vinnie Paul has passed away.
Paul is best known for his work as the drummer in the bands
Pantera and Hellyeah.
No further details are available at this time.
The family requests you please respect their privacy during this time.”

Though no official cause of death has been confirmed, according to an article published by the Las Vegas Review-Journal (here), alleged sources who knew Vinnie Paul have said that he had suffered a major heart attack.

His body has been turned over to the medical examiner to determine an official cause of death, TMZ reported (here). He will then be flown back to his home state of Texas to be buried between his mother and brother.

Vinnie Paul helped to form and co-found Pantera back in 1981 alongside his brother, Dimebag Darrell. The outfit originally started out as a glam metal band before adopting a much heavier sound and style from 1986 once they recruited frontman, Phil Anselmo. Pantera went on to release nine studio albums before the members split due to inner conflict and differences.

He then went onto to co-found another band with is brother, Damageplan. The band were together for a short time, before Dimebag Darrell was tragically shot and killed by a fan on December 8th 2004 moments into their show at the Alrosa Villa nightclub in Columbus, Ohio.

In 2006, Vinnie Paul went on to join heavy metal supergroup Hellyeah, who to date have released five studio albums with a sixth reportedly near completion.
