NEWS: Rock am Ring evacuated due to “terrorist threat”!

Annual rock festival Rock am Ring, which is held at the Air Base in Mendig, Germany, was evacuated yesterday (June 2nd 2017) due to an alleged “terrorist threat”. The festival, which runs alongside Rock im Park, is the largest music festival held in Germany and one of the largest in the world.

Police interrupted the festival to advise that festival organisers that the crowd should be evacuated to allow them to perform the necessary checks and investigations to ensure the safety of all staff, fans, and attendees of the festival.

The festival released an official statement confirming this news via their social medias, which you can read below:

“Due to a terrorist threat, the police have advised us to interrupt the festival.

We ask all festival visitors to leave the festival site in a calm and controlled manner towards the exits and camping grounds.

We have to support the police investigations.

All visitors will be kept informed about any developments on all Rock am Ring social media channels, radio and the speakers.

We hope that the festival will continue tomorrow. Thank you for your co-operation.”

As a result of the evacuation and postponing of the festival, Friday headliners Rammstein were unable to perform their set, and were unable to reschedule to perform at the festival at a later time or date.

Zoltan Bathory, the guitarist for Five Finger Death Punch, tweeted a video of people leaving the site.

Simple Plan guitarist Jeff Stinco also posted a video of the festival goers evacuating the Rock am Ring grounds.

Following investigations and co-operation with the police, organisers have confirmed that Rock am Ring has re-opened to proceed as normal once again.

“Rock am Ring 2017 will go on! After intensive searches and sweeps of the complete festival site by the police the suspicion of a potential terrorist threat has not been confirmed.

Set up for day 2 of Rock am Ring has commenced and the program is going to be resumed in the early afternoon. The incredibly disciplined fans deserve all our respect and gratitude.”
