In some tragic news so early on in the year, Babymetal guitarist Mikio Fujioka, known far more commonly to fans as Ko-Gami, has sadly passed away earlier this week (January 5th 2018) at the age of 36 as a result of a tragic accident.
The band posted a message on Twitter confirming the news, in which they say, “The ‘Little’ Guitar Kami of Babymetal’s Kami Band has passed away in the metal galaxies. We hope that he is now with his guitar master Allan Holdsworth and enjoying an epic guitar session with him.”
His wife elaborated, posting on Fujioka‘s Twitter to say that he had fallen from an observation deck while stargazing on December 30th 2017, and unfortunately passed away a few short days later as a result of his injuries.
Mikio was an accomplished guitar player who had previously played in the band Trickbox before joining Babymetal in 2013 as a part of their backing band, known collectively as the Kami Band.
He also taught guitar at a Japanese school and has published numerous guitar books. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
We here at DEAD PRESS! offers our deepest sympathies and condolences to Mikio‘s family, friends, loved ones, and fans at this incredibly difficult time.
