After an 18-month long battle with cancer, legendary artist David Bowie has tragically passed away yesterday (January 10th 2016). The news of his passing follows the recent release of his twenty-fifth studio album ‘Blackstar’, which was released just a few days ago on Bowie’s 69th birthday. A short statement was released via his social network accounts yesterday evening, which reads as follows:
“David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.”
Along with a huge array of hits across his over 40-year career, including songs such as ‘Life On Mars?’, ‘Ashes To Ashes’, ‘Space Oddity’ and ‘Under Pressure’, Bowie also held a successful acting career, most notably his appearance as Jareth the Goblin King in the 1986 fantasy film, Labyrinth.
Bowie‘s last live performance took place at a New York charity concert in 2006.
We here at DEAD PRESS! send our deepest sympathies and condolences to all of Bowie‘s friends, family, and loved ones at this difficult time.
