As predicted and reported just last week, New York emo alternative rockers Brand New have managed to secure their first ever #1 charting record on the Billboard 200 with their fifth – and also potentially final – album, ‘Science Fiction’.
We shared the news of the prediction of the overwhelming success of the band’s fifth album ‘Science Fiction’ despite its huge deviation from promotion and the standard album release format last week (here).
Ahead of its release on August 17th 2017, ‘Science Fiction’ received no pre-release promotion, including zero singles or videos, which remains the case to date. Instead, Brand New dispatched untitled and initially anonymous CDs limited to 500 out to fans who had pre-ordered the very limited vinyl upon its announcement a couple of days prior on August 15th 2017.
The CD contained one 61-minute long track, named ‘44.5902N104.7146W’, and following much excitement, investigation, theorising, and eventual word from the band, this was confirmed to the band’s new album which they made available to purchase online publicly and in full that evening. Digital copies were available instantaneously, whilst physical orders will be shipped in October.
‘Science Fiction’ is also the first independently distributed album to top the Billboard 200 in 2017.
Brand New have entered the Billboard 200 charts with their past three records; 2003’s ‘Deja Entendu’ hit #63, 2006’s ‘The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me’ reached #31, and 2009’s ‘Daisy’ obtained the #6 spot.
