Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past couple of weeks, you’ll be well aware that Donald Trump is now officially the President of the United States of America, and has implemented some controversial executive orders since entering office, including a ban on travel from several predominantly Muslim countries, along with orders to soon begin construction on the much discussed Mexico border wall.
California based online streaming service, music store, and platform for artist promotion BandCamp have reacted to these orders and changes to offer their help towards those affected negatively by the changes. On Friday (February 3rd 2017), the company will be donating 100% of their share of the proceeds from any purchases made on that day towards the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union).
For those unaware of the work that the ACLU do, they combat against discriminatory and unconstitutional actions, defend civilians’ First Amendment rights, their right to equal protection under the law, right to due process, and right to privacy, to name but a few things.
You can read more about BandCamp‘s pledge to help support ACLU on this day via a blog posted on their official website (here), which also features a playlist of tracks from artists and bands from some of the countries affected by these orders.
