We regret to report that Alexi Laiho, the vocalist/guitarist and founding member of Children Of Bodom, has died at the age of 41.
Laiho tragically passed away in his home in Helsinki, Finland, last week, having suffered from long-term health issues in the past few years.
His wife, Kelli Wright-Laiho, had this to say of his passing.
“Alexi was the most loving and magnificent husband and father. Our hearts are eternally broken.”
Alongside drummer Jaska Raatikainen, Laiho founded Children Of Bodom in 1993 through which the band released ten full-length studio albums, their final being 2019’s ‘Hexed’ before disbanding later that year.
Laiho then went on to form Bodom After Midnight, who recorded three songs and shot one music video, which will be released at a later date posthumously.
Fellow Bodom After Midnight bandmates Daniel Freyberg, Mitja Toivonen, and Waltteri Väyrynen had this to say.
“We are crushed by the sudden passing of our dear friend and band member. Words cannot describe this shock and the profound sadness that we feel.”
We here at DEAD PRESS! offer our deepest condolences to Alexi Laiho‘s family, friends, bandmates, and loved ones at this very difficult time.
