Despite a lot of rumours and expectations of their third album to drop before the end of 2017, Australian pop-rock poster boys 5 Seconds Of Summer have now confirmed that their eagerly awaited follow-up to 2015’s ‘Sounds Good, Feels Good’ will definitely see a release in 2018.
The news was confirmed by lead guitarist and vocalist Michael Clifford in a recent interview with Billboard.
When asked about the missed release for 2017, Clifford said, “Our fans were pretty pissed off that we didn’t give them an update about releasing an album this year because towards the start of the year, we were pretty positive we’d have an album out by the end of . With timing, it just didn’t end up working, but we’re definitely gonna have the album out next year.”
Clifford was then asked how the album is currently coming along and what to expect, he responded, “It’s coming along really well. It’s taking a really long time to perfect the new sound and direction we’re taking. I think the reason it’s taken so long is because we haven’t just wanted to get it to a place where we’re, like, happy… we want it to be perfect. I think when all the new stuff comes out, it’s like a departure of our old sound but it still keeps elements of all of the things we liked about it. It was just time for us to change. The studio’s been awesome. We’ve just been slaving away, living in there. We’re at a point now where we’re almost ready to put out our first single.”
During the same interview, he also confirmed that the record’s lead single would be released “really, really early in the new year.”
