Brand New are on a tad earlier tonight than originally scheduled, and much of the Birmingham audience seems rather confused with this change, but they arrive to the stage early for a good reason. Unfortunately the lead singer of the band Saosin had been sent to the hospital due to an illness. However, Brand New have stepped in till fill their slot, and are in a way the heroes of Give It A Name in Birmingham this year.
They start things off with one of their older songs, ‘Seventy Times Seven’, which is one of their more upbeat tracks. Like with most of the bands that have played tonight, fans sing each word of every song back to them, showcasing some dedicated members in the audience. The band’s lyrics and music are spread into every space you can find within this arena tonight. They also play an old favourite ‘Sic Transit Gloria… Glory Fades’, with frontman and lyricist Jesse Lacey singing into the humbuckers of his guitar giving an odd but original effect to his voice.
Although they seem a little confined in their space on the smaller stage tonight, they don’t do a bad job. However, if they step up to help another band out in the future, they may need to pull-out a few more tricks than they have done this time around.
