We’re putting the spotlight on the hottest and most exciting new bands around with our Introducing feature, ready to highlight the artists with the biggest potential to make an impact on their scene.

Emerging metal stars Rituals debut EP, ‘Awake’, shows them embracing a freshly heavier direction, while still chucking in a tonne of melody. The record is full of hammering drums, stout sludgy bass lines, and intricate riffs. The band had this to say about the EP:

“’Awake’ is a combination of thought processes. It is about developing a sense of self-worth, whilst realising false realities, and remoulding yourself into the person you’ve wanted to become. Musically, it is a collection of four songs created in a heavier vein than our previous material, as we strive to constantly evolve our sound.”

We caught up with the band to talk about their origins and what the future holds.

Newcastle, UK

Bullet For My Valentine / Killswitch Engage / August Burns Red

DP!: How would you describe yourselves to someone who has never heard Rituals before?
Rituals: Rituals combine elements of old school metal riffing with modern metal production, with a focus on melody in the vocals.

DP!: How did the band form?
Rituals: The band formed when Lewis and Ewan were struggling to find a project that fit the sound they wanted had in their head. They were looking for something that combined metal riffs with melody, and something that had an energy to it. A few demos were sent back and forth and Rituals was formed.

DP!: What plans do you have for the future?
Rituals: Our debut EP is dropping on the 3rd of September and we have a run of shows to coincide with that. We are writing new material as well that we are all excited about so we will be getting in and recording that.

DP!: Which new bands are you listening to right now?
Rituals: I think our favourite new band we’ve discovered is UK band Black Coasts, they’ve got such a cool vibe to their music and their riffs slap.

DP!: Which bands do you aspire to and why?
Rituals: While She Sleeps because of their DIY nature and their resilience to keep on going as a band no matter what circumstances they are in.

DP!: What’s the stand out moment in your career so far?
Rituals: Our Newcastle headline show in February 2020. It was our first experience touring and the crowd went for it.

DP!: Where do you want to be a year from now?
Rituals: Hopefully if the world has returned to some form of normality we want to be playing gigs up and down the country. Finally getting to play the new music we’ve released over the past year live, where it is meant to be heard.

Rituals‘s new EP, ‘Awake’, is out on September 3rd.
