We’re putting the spotlight on the hottest and most exciting new bands around with our Introducing feature, ready to highlight the artists with the biggest potential to make an impact on their scene.
Bristol-based nu-metal five-piece NO:IR have just released their new single ‘Phantom’ that showcases their blend of rap and metal that even delves into emo, hip-hop and dark pop. Lyricist Evvi Davies had the following to say about the song:
“The song is intuitive about who NO:IR is, and comparing the honesty in our music to the persona we have created as a band. NO:IR isn’t five individuals but one personality, blending elements of the individuals into one character. The song questions our authenticity, and the lyrics directly reflect where we are as a band.”
We caught up with Evvi from the band to talk about their origins and what the future holds.

WHAT THE BAND SAY:
DP!: How did the band form?
Evvi: We all met back in our first year of university. We decided very early on to start a ‘heavy’ band, but with no straight idea of what style of ‘heavy’ music to make. From there we started practicing and jamming together, which proved crucial in finding our signature sound and our ability to use each others’ influences for our benefit.
DP!: What plans do you have for the future?
Evvi: Our bucket list as a band is really long. In the near future we’re just really hyped to get back out on tour, meeting new people and making new friends. The last year has been really tough, so getting back to performing will be great. Our releases for the latter end of this year are going to be dope too.
DP!: Which new bands are you listening to right now?
Evvi: There are a lot of underground bands killing it in the scene at the moment! Some artists which I keep going back to are Nova Twins, Bob Vylan and Phoxjaw.
DP!: Which bands do you aspire to and why?
Evvi: I aspire to a lot of different bands, not really for specific reasons but because they inspire me to want to keep creating better music and pushing the band as far as we can get. Growing up I was really into bands like MCR, FOB and Panic, as deep down songwriting is a great passion of mine. I feel I wouldn’t even be able to write lyrics if it weren’t for those bands.
DP!: What’s the stand out moment in your career so far?
Evvi: Everything we’ve done so far has been great, but really I feel the stand out moment is yet to come.
DP!: Where do you want to be a year from now?
Evvi: In a year we will have a few more releases under our belts and a lot more shows played, so I’d really hope to have grown our fanbase and have even greater plans on the horizon.
