We’re putting the spotlight on the hottest and most exciting new bands around with our Introducing feature, ready to highlight the artists with the biggest potential to make an impact on their scene.

I, The Mapmaker have achieved so much in such a small amount of time and have just put out their first EP, ‘Disbelief’, which is ready to stream on all the normal online platforms.

You may have seen the boys playing shows with Hundredth, Stray From The Path, Deez Nuts, Casey or Napoleon, showcasing their frantic hardcore that maintains a sentimental melody throughout.

‘Searching’ is the ideal starting point for the band that have the potential to become creative world beaters.

DP!: How would you describe yourselves to someone who has never heard I, The Mapmaker before?
I, The Mapmaker: Our songs are a journey through heartfelt lyrics and passionate music that reveal two stories; one of personal experiences and the other of the story into the character and journey of the abstract Mapmaker, Ordinance. Each track fuses hardcore inspired, progressive music with a blend of fierce and melodic vocals.
We pride ourselves on taking a unique approach to playing live; aiming to create an intimate environment that evokes a sense of belonging through our honest, raw performance that differs with every show.

DP!: How did the band form?
I, The Mapmaker: Mapmaker started with Jonny (drums) and Josh (Guitar) initially writing with some good friends. The concept of the band was born out of the addition of Ash on vocals, that led to the recording of the first two singles Ghostwalker and Capsized. Ashes twin brother Perry subsequently joined on bass with Nathan completing the line up on guitar and vocals.

DP!: What plans do you have for the future?
I, The Mapmaker: Our debut EP, ‘Searching’ will be coming out May 18th. We will be celebrating its release with a launch show at The Joiners Arms in Southampton with some very special guests. Meanwhile, you can expect two new music videos due for release in the coming months.
We’ll also be making our second appearance at Teddy Rocks in May and hope to mirror this achievement by playing at more festivals throughout the summer. We love playing new places and hope we get the opportunity to perform at as many places as possible.

DP!: Which new bands are you listening to right now?
I, The Mapmaker:It is a pleasure to be part of such a thriving UK scene, with some incredible new bands such as Chalk Hands and Modern Error releasing some very exciting new material.
We recently had the pleasure of playing alongside Loathe and Holding Absence, who over the course of the last year have released material that’s been at the top of all our play lists. Their new split EP is something we’d highly recommend listening to!

DP!: Which bands do you aspire to and why?
I, The Mapmaker:Counterparts are a band that has constantly raised the bar with each of their releases and have remained true with their sound throughout their career. Its inspiring to see a band we’re all so fond of progress from playing the same venues we have, to supporting Architects in arenas around the world.
Alexisonfire and Underoath are also both bands that we’ve all grown up listening to. Albums such as ‘They’re Only Chasing Safety’ and ‘Crisis’ are records that were the soundtracks to most of our lives growing up. Underoaths final show in Tampa FL when they first disbanded really demonstrates the impact music can have on people. Similarly, we want our songs to touch people in the same way and hope we can cause people to fall in love with music the same way we have listening to these bands.

DP!: What’s the stand out moment in your career so far?
I, The Mapmaker: The recording of our EP is something that we are all very proud of and can’t wait to share with everybody.
We played a very intimidate sold out show supporting Stray From The Path at The Anvil in Bournemouth which we will certainly remember. We’re also very humbled to have played our very first show alongside Deez Nuts, not to mention all the other incredible and influential bands along the way!

I, The Mapmaker‘s new EP ‘Searching’ is out now, and you can keep up to date with the band online over on Facebook and Twitter.
