We’re putting the spotlight on the hottest and most exciting new bands around with our Introducing feature, ready to highlight the artists with the biggest potential to make an impact on their scene.

“When I wrote these songs, I wanted to push people’s boundaries,” says the enigmatic frontman and songwriter behind CVLT OV THE SVN. “I wanted to come up with ideas and lyrics that make you go, ‘What the fuck?!'”. The Finnish singer uses black metal, pop, and stoner rock with an aggressive touch to keep the listener in a tight grip of anxiety with romantic and dark undertones.

We spoke with CVLT OV THE SVN about their origins, and what the future holds.

Occult Murder Pop

Ghost / HIM / Tribulation

DP!: How would you describe yourselves to someone who has never heard CVLT OV THE SVN before?
COTS: This is occult murder pop. Sinister, seductive, and aggressive rock ‘n’ roll. Very melodic and straight forward music. It combines elements from black metal, pop, and stoner rock.

DP!: How did the band form?
COTS: I started to write songs as a sort of therapy for myself four years ago. ‘Luna In The Sky Forever’ was one of the first songs that came into being. It sounded fairly good as a rough demo, so I began to take the writing process more seriously. That being said, this is sort of a one man band. Then, during these four years, right-minded musicians gravitated towards the concept.

DP!: What plans do you have for the future?
COTS: Release more music and hopefully tour the shit out of it. I have plenty of material standing by.

DP!: Which new bands are you listening to right now?
COTS: I don’t listen to new bands. When you write intensively, the amount of music listening is greatly reduced in my experience.

DP!: Which bands do you aspire to and why?
COTS: Guns N’ Roses, AC/DC, Marilyn Manson, Queens Of The Stone Age, The Doors, Pantera… to name a few. In general, I enjoy bands that have their own thing. That would also be my target with CVLT OV THE SVN.

DP!: What’s the stand out moment in your career so far?
COTS: First CVLT OV THE SVN show in London, most definitely. Hope there will be plenty of more to come. Also the release of the ‘Luna In The Sky Forever’ EP is very important for me.
