Headlining this year’s Hit The Deck Festival is none other than post-hardcore giants Underoath, who released their stellar new album ‘Ø (Disambiguation)’ last November (or April 4th if you’re going by the UK release date), the first with no remaining founding members. As one of the biggest post-hardcore exports from the US, we had a chat with vocalist Spencer Chamberlain about their upcoming Hit The Deck performance:
Zach: You’re headlining this year’s Hit The Deck Festival, are you looking forward to it?
Spencer: Yeah man, it looks like it’s gonna be a good time all around! There’s a lot of bands on the bill so we are excited. We have never been to it before, so we don’t really know what to expect.
Zach: What can we expect from your set at the show?
Spencer: Well, we are going to play a lot of new material and plenty of variety off the last couple of records as well. It will be a good time, I promise.
Zach: Are you hoping to catch any other bands playing the festival whilst you’re there?
Spencer: Yeah man, Cancer Bats and Comeback Kid are always fun bands to watch.
Zach: Your appearance there is coinciding with your UK tour, what’s it like playing in the UK in comparison to back home in the US?
Spencer: It really depends, but the UK has never let us down. Sometimes I feel like it’s more fun playing the UK because the kids seem to be a bit more excited being that we don’t get to tour there as often as the States.
Zach: Your new album ‘Ø (Disambiguation)’ was recently released in the UK through Roadrunner, how’ve you found the reception to it from fans and critics so far?
Spencer: As far as we know all the reviews have been excellent. In the States, the fans have been loving the new songs live. I guess we will see when we get to the UK.
Zach: Why should people coming to Hit The Deck Festival catch your set?
Spencer: It will be a fun set with a good mix of material, both new and old. We won’t let you down.
Zach: What other plans do you have after your Hit The Deck appearance?
Spencer: We continue on to tour Europe before we go home for a week, then we hit Australia and Japan.
Zach: Any other words you’d like to add?
Spencer: Yeah, come out and hang out with us at Hit The Deck Festival! We appreciate all the support from the UK over the years. See you there!
