London ambient metal kings Devil Sold His Soul are playing the We The Brave Clothing stage in the Stealth venue as sub-headliners, just below Sylosis. With their full-length ‘Blessed & Cursed’ receiving the number 1 position in our top albums of 2010 charts, these guys are highly recommended to catch of at Hit The Deck if you can. We had a little interview with Paul Kitney (synth) in the run-up to the show:
Zach: How does it feel to be playing this year’s Hit The Deck Festival?
Paul: We’re really happy about playing. Nottingham is one of the best cities in the UK for us and there are a load of good bands, so it’s going to be a kick-ass day.
Zach: You’re about to go on tour supporting Underoath, are you looking forward to it?
Paul: We’ve been trying to get on one of their tours for years, so looking forward to it is a bit of an understatement.
Zach: Are there any bands you’re hoping to catch whilst at the festival?
Paul: Between the six of us there are quite a few. If our stage times don’t clash, it would be cool to see Comeback Kid again, and I’ve not seen Exit Ten for while so I’m going to try to check them out too. One band I’m definitely not going to miss, and can’t wait to see again, is Feed The Rhino who supported us on our last headline tour around the UK.
Zach: You’ve had your latest album ‘Blessed & Cursed’ out for almost a year now, how’ve you found the reception towards it over the past several months since its release?
Paul: It’s been amazing! It got really good reviews and the fans seemed to like it, and it’s also got us a lot of new ones. It was a bit of a relief, as the previous album ‘A Fragile Hope’ got very good reviews and was loved by a lot of people. So to surpass that and keep things moving onward and upwards was a big achievement for us.
Zach: Why should people going to Hit The Deck come and check out your set?
Paul: Chances are they’ll like what we’re doing.
Zach: What plans have you got coming up after the festival?
Paul: We’ve got the last few UK dates of the Underoath tour, and then we’ll be heading over to mainland Europe to do a few more with them. Then it’ll be a summer of festivals in the UK and Europe.
SET TIME: 20:40 – 21:10 (8:40pm – 9:10pm) on the We The Brave Clothing stage.
