If you’re into the likes of Meshuggah, Architects and Humanity’s Last Breath then you’ll be needing to throw yourself into ‘The Way It Ends’, the brand new record from Connecticut metallers Currents. Arena-ready metalcore with enough djent to keep the progressive crowd interested, Currents are using their unique perspective and personal experiences to stand out from their peers.
To celebrate the release of the new album, we caught up with the band who picked out their favourite records that have been released by their label mates on Sharptone Records.
WE CAME AS ROMANS – COLD LIKE WAR
As chosen by Chris Wiseman (Guitar)
Chris: There is a lot of work put into every part of the songs especially the choruses. That, put together with the incredible production value makes this the band’s strongest album in a very long time.
LOATHE – I LET IT IN AND IT TOOK EVERYTHING
As chosen by Ryan Castaldi (Guitar)
Ryan: I really love the atmosphere this album captures, a perfect combination of melancholy and chaos. Each song stands out on their own while being completely cohesive.
DON BROCO – AUTOMATIC
As chosen by Chin Pulgarin (Bass)
Chin: This album really stood out to me because they weren’t afraid to be different and owned every second of it. It grooves so hard I can’t help but want to dance.
ALAZKA – PHOENIX
As chosen by Brian Wille (vocals)
Brian: Whether it’s Tobi’s yells, Kaz’s voice, the incredible song structure, tasteful lead work or the solid lyrics throughout, this record has so much to love on every track. I know that Kaz isn’t in the band anymore, but this record puts him on the map as one of the genre’s all-time best singers. These guys pour out passion both live and on-record and their new singles with Tobi on full vocal duty are just as amazing as ‘Phoenix’. Stand out tracks for me on this one are ‘Ghost’, ‘Empty Throne’, ‘Hearts of Gold’, ‘Blossom’ and ‘Everything’.
SAVAGE HANDS – THE TRUTH IN YOUR EYES
As chosen by Matt Young (Drums)
Matt: This record grooves from start to finish. The vocal melodies are super catchy and you can’t help but want to sing along. You can really feel the energy and passion that went into creating these songs.
