Netherlands’ rockers DeWolff are no strangers to the Southern rock scene throughout the continent having played festivals all over and shared the stage with Blues Pills and The Black Keys. The band have just released their new self-produced record ‘Thrust’ where they start to tackle contemporary and political issues in the USA and Netherlands while maintaining their luscious and expansive neo-psychedelia. Drummer Luka van de Poel has helped us out by introducing us to some of the best and most important bands from 70’s rock music that influenced DeWolff over the year; check out the tracks they picked out.
JAMES GANG – DO IT
This James Gang song is a pretty badass straight forward rock tune. But it makes you wanna put your car stereo to the max volume, roll down the windows and cruise down the highway at 100mph. We are big fans of Joe Walsh, although this song is from the album ‘Miami’ which is without Walsh.
THOMAS JEFFERSON KAYE – COLLECTION BOX
Kaye’s 1973 debut album is a true undiscovered gem. Every single song is brilliant, and ‘Collection Box’ is one of the highlights from this album. Kaye’s voice is so cool and easy while the music gets under your skin and crawls. This song actually was a big inspiration for ‘Measure of a Man’ which is on our 2016 ‘Roux-Ga-Roux’ album!
LITTLE FEAT – SNAKES ON EVERYTHING
The opening track of Little Feat’s debut album immediately gets you hooked on this band. Little Feat can never bore you. We all heard this record sooo many times, and every song is just brilliant.
If we could pick one artist to play with on stage dead or alive it would probably be Lowell George. On later Little Feat albums (‘Sailing Shoes’, ‘Dixie Chicken’ and the bootleg ‘Electrif Lycanthrope’) his voice and guitar playing is even more soulful. Oh, and check out ‘The Fan’ from the ‘Electrif Lycanthrope’ album. It’s so freakin’ good. It’s out of this world!!
GRITZ – BAYOU COUNTRY
This song is the epitome of southern rock. Gritz only recorded two songs and one of them is the breathtaking ‘Bayou Country’, where they sing “I gotta get back to the Bayou Country, smell of magnolias bring you to your knees, fais do dos and cajun women, Spanish moss hanging from the big oak trees”. Well, close your eyes and Gritz takes you back to that bayou country. I wish they recorded more songs, because this one keeps you craving for more.
THE EAGLES – LIFE IN THE FAST LANE
Yeah, we’re all big Eagle fans, and ‘Life in The Fast Lane’ is just a su-per-cool rock tune. Eagles keep on inspiring us everytime we re-discover them. It’s a brilliant band!
