Celtic punk favourites Flogging Molly are out on the road for 2018’s ‘Fireball – Fuelling The Fire Tour’, along with the always brilliant The Bronx, punk legends Face To Face, and a host of others for what’s sure to be the most fun you have at a show this year.
To celebrate, we got Flogging Molly‘s guitarist Dennis Casey to come up with their Top 5 Drinking Songs to get us in the mood.
Please be aware that, whilst this article is about drinking songs, it is important to drink responsibly. You can head to Drink Aware (here) for more information. Oh, and don’t be one of those idiots that drinks and drives.
THE ROLLING STONES – JUMPIN’ JACK FLASH
When I was a teenager I would get a bottle of Old Grand Dad bourbon and put this song on to start my night. I think it sets the mood for a raucous night. I still to this day have the same feeling when I hear it. Adding some old Grand Dad just puts it to 10.
BOUNCING SOULS – TRUE BELIEVERS
We did a support tour for the Souls when ‘True Believers’ came out and I would rank it Top 5 Tours of All-Time. We then did Vans Warped Tour that summer and there was always cases and cases of Yoo-Hoo chocolate drink around. We were also watching The Big Lebowski a lot. So, we decided to make White Russians with Yoo-Hoo. They went down real easy in the summer heat. I remember playing ‘True Believers’ on the bus and when it came on Pete from The Souls tackled me.
THE POGUES – A PAIR OF BROWN EYES
This song sounds drunk. It’s the soundtrack to how I feel when I’ve been drunk for a while. Definitely, an end of the night song. It’s a really nice waltz rhythm that one can stumble to, or dance with your girl as you try to hold each other up after many pints of Guinness.
FLOGGING MOLLY – DEVIL’S DANCE FLOOR
I discovered Knappogue Castle Whiskey one day in Belfast. It has become my favourite whiskey of all. It can be hard to find in the US but it’s getting easier. I love when a good friend brings a bottle to the show and we drink it before we play. I like to line up 10 or more shots and let people who’ve never had it try some. ‘Devil’s Dance Floor’ is a song we always play and this whiskey is good primer.
THE DUBLINERS – THE TOWN I LOVED SO WELL
Dave King turned me on to The Dubliners. He also showed me how well a Guinness and Jameson or Bushmills whiskey go together. We all would stay up all night singing the Dubliners at the top of our lungs. This song in particular reminds me of Dave just singing his heart out arm in arm.
Flogging Molly headline the ‘Fireball – Fuelling The Fire Tour’ this December, with support from The Bronx, Face To Face, Lost In Stereo and more.
