Every now and then, it’s nice to have a break from all screams and general angst of the metal world and just have a dabble in something new. That’s just what The Kickdrums are, something new. Considering this site mainly deals with rock and metal bands, this is a just a heads up that The Kickdrums don’t really fit into that category. That’s not to say that you won’t like them though, and their laid back and synthy music is highly accessible.
Their sounds brings backs memories of dizzy feelings of a head rush and the momentary sense of bliss that comes with it. It’s as if you’re floating in a trance-like state. Through carefully selected effects and hours of mixing, The Kickdrums have produced this wonderful psychedelic sound that you can happily get lost in. Take a listen to ‘Atonement’ while sitting back in your chair or lying on your bed with your eyes closed, and you too will feel like you’re floating.
Though I wouldn’t exactly call this music revolutionary, it’s still bloody good music and very listenable at that too. Some people may argue that it’s too simplistic, but is there anything wrong with that? I don’t think so, music doesn’t have to be a challenge and, sometimes, it just has to be easy and simple.
In summary, if you’re a fan of electronic music or are open to listening to something a little bit different and fun, then definitely check out The Kickdrums when you can. At a nice bite-sized, three tracks long, their ‘Still Logic’ EP is an interesting and enjoyable listen and won’t eat up too much of your time or funds either.
