In today’s vastly overcrowded rock scene, punk rock seems to have been pushed to one side to make room for the likes of newer and *ahem* more “original” acts, like Asking Alexandria and 30 Seconds To Mars. Personally, I think this is a travesty, but there’s not much I can do about it. However, one of the things I love about punk rock is its fan base and how loyal they are to the genre. Punk rock fans really do go out of their way to support the newbies in the scene, as well as rocking up to the more established gigs at the age of 50. It’s a life choice and a bloody good one at that.
Having been hard at work over the last few years, releasing split EPs and what not, The Arteries have their own record out now and it’s a punk rock masterpiece. Leaning to the more punk side of the spectrum, the ‘Restless’ EP is packed full vicious, fast-paced anthems that will have you head banging in an instant.
The fact that there are 5 members of the band makes a big difference and separates them from the default three pieces you find with most punk rock bands. This gives their sound a richer texture as well as adding a new level of depth to the musical structure to the songs, resulting in a damn fine end product.
The wheel has not been reinvented here, more improved upon. The Arteries have taken all the core elements of punk and refined them to please modern ears. The ‘Restless’ EP is six songs of punk rock perfection that are so much fun to listen to and will translate into a live environment flawlessly. Keep an eye out for these guys, I can see them going far.
