As part of their A Year Of You series, London based trio Shaded have returned with a new six-track EP, ‘_002’.

Opener ‘Comedy’ is an impressively strong start, encapsulating the dreamiest summer vibes. As with their previous releases, Shaded have perfected the art of creating a funk-pop banger, and ‘Comedy’ is different. Combining an unusual blend of Craig David meets Emarosa, it’s without a doubt their strongest song yet.

The record also deals with some delicate topics as it begins to transition into ‘Unavailable’ and ‘Still A Stranger’. Whilst the former delves into the notion of wanting to shut yourself off from the world and the latter, a breakdown of a relationship, both tracks centre around battling with mental health, a topic which Shaded frequently use their platform to promote, with each song no doubt resonating with everyone on some level.

Picking back up the pace at just the right moment, ‘Ur So Good’ lends itself as the standout track on offer here. Radiating even more feel good vibes, it has an air of The 1975 and will have you singing (and most likely dancing) along in no time. The band’s ability to pen an infectiously catchy chorus is one of their many talents, with ‘Never!’ also bound to be an absolute hit with live crowds.

Rounding off the EP, ‘I Still Miss U’ is a gut-wrenchingly emotional ballad, which does deter you away from the mood-boosting tracks before it. However, this is easily forgiven when Matt East showcases his exceptional vocal range, leaving you with goosebumps long after the EP ends.

As time goes on, Shaded seem to get better with each release they put out. Considering there’s still two more releases to go throughout the year as part of the series, the follow-up offerings will be ever so impressive.
