Tonight Matthew I am the Batman, and tonight ladies and gentlemen, you will have a new favorite band. POLAR. will assault your iPod with their brand of hardcore fast enough, and certainly bold enough to make Black Flag proud. Blessed with the raw passion and likability so many hardcore bands are lacking today, POLAR. can only expect a pretty huge year ahead of them.
Angrier than your mum on a hangover, POLAR.‘s debut five-track EP ‘This Polar Noise’ holds all the brutality of, well, something really fucking brutal. Imagine the Hulk on steroids and you’re half way there. As they explode into opener, ‘Tonight Matthew I Am The Batman’, you are hit with an almighty adrenaline rush. Held together by a rapid drum beat and a quite impressive vocal performance, the POLAR. boys set off the biggest metaphorical bomb in history. I’m talking atomic chaos.
‘Shanghai Junk’ storms in with a cry of “Tie your knuckles up tight”, it’s apparent that someone has really pissed off this Guilfordian quintet, and truth be told I’m shitting myself for whoever that may be. Packing enough punch to sit down Tyson, it won’t be long until this mob are up there with the likes of Your Demise, tearing apart venues not only in the UK but globally.
I haven’t been as excited about a hardcore bands since Gallows released their ‘In The Belly Of A Shark’ EP back in 2007. ‘This Polar Noise’ is bursting with enough venomous promise to combat the recent surge of pop-punk and get us all staring at the rude boys again.
