The UK hardcore scene over recent years has soared and soared, thanks to the mainstream success garnered by the likes of Gallows and Your Demise. Many still remain in the small and sweaty gig circuit of the underground and remain happy there, whilst others thrive to climb to rival the success of their aforementioned peers. POLAR. are one of these said bands, and with the release of new EP ‘Inspire Create Destroy’, the Surrey outfit are closer to achieving this goal than they’ve ever been before.
Whilst still in the the ranks beside the likes of Brutality Will Prevail and Bastions, POLAR. have been a band who are sometimes not mentioned in the same breath as major UK hardcore enthusiasts. They do, however, hold as much aggression, snarl and venom as many “hate mosh” encouragers in the scene. Right from the snare build-up with opener ‘Inspire’, we’re then chucked right into the thick as soon as frontman Adam Woodford‘s shrill screams come into play.
Though their most brief outing of their career to date, ‘Inspire Create Destroy’ also holds what could arguably be considered their most accessible work. The aforementioned ‘Inspire’ will have you screaming “traitor” along with Woodford, and EP closer brings in some sharp guitar leads which drives a chorus of gang chants which will no doubt flood the band’s live shows on their tours over the coming months.
‘Inspire Create Destroy’ marks a turning point for the POLAR. lads, and hopefully paves the way to ascension as one of the more respected and sought after hardcore units in the UK. We won’t be able to see this full potential until a second full-length drops. But once it does, you’ll have to be living under a rock to not know about it.
