Alternative rock, the older and quite frankly better brother of conventional rock music has gifted us with so many incredible bands; Muse, R.E.M., Red Hot Chili Peppers are all legends in their field, and still influence many bands to this day. While it seems that everything has already been done before, young and innovative acts such as Mind Museum are always finding ways to take a fresh spin on things.
The band’s new EP, ‘One Blood’, is on the more energetic side of the alt rock camp, brimming with infectious choruses, enthusiastic riffs and high-octane solos. Despite consisting of only three members, Mind Museum boast the complexity of a five-piece and have created a rich sound, one that will translate fluently into a live environment. For example, take the title track ‘One Blood’, with its unique and powerful vocals, combined with a surprisingly heavy breakdown makes for some damn fine listening.
As intricate as their music is, their lyrics are a tad simplistic and repetitive in places, plus they seem to have taken it upon themselves to make sure everything rhymes. But, this is a small, if not petty issue in an otherwise exceptional EP and given that the band is still in the early stages of their career, they can easily be forgiven for this.
So, if you’re a fan of the likes of Biffy Clyro or InMe, then Mind Museum are definitely one you should check out. No doubt they’ll be touring the country sometime soon, it won’t be long before they’re bumped from the support slots to headline shows.
