Here’s one that might have slipped under your radar: Ed Gibbs (ex-Devil Sold His Soul frontman) has joined Bristol based melodic hardcore band, All We Have, and have released a new EP, ‘Balance And Meaning’. It’s an interesting marriage that will appeal to existing fans of the band, DSHS buffs, and fans of modern hardcore in general.
‘Balance And Meaning’ seems like it’s all over before it has begun, but it sits at the side of your brain and nags you to listen to it one more time. It’s not particularly pioneering, but it’s very difficult to pigeonhole it into one particular niche thanks to Ed Gibbs‘ unique voice. Many feel that his departure from DSHS was a true shame because of this very reason, so they’ll be pleased to hear he’s given centre stage amongst the Gallows-esque guitar rhythms of All We Have.
Ed has left DSHS though, and we all need to accept this fact. His place is now with All We Have, just like Gareth Bale is now with Real Madrid, and he needs to be considered amongst a new breed of vocalists. He’s no longer trying to give you that feel, but trying to get you to run in a circle and pump your aggression out into the person aside you’s face, like on ‘One Turn Of The Sun’. There are still moments of atmospherics though, however, even if they’re less concentrated, like on ‘I’m Overcome’.
‘Balance And Meaning’ can be purchased from the band’s BandCamp for just £5. Get out there and support a promising new band as they try to make a name for themselves. Sure, it may be a bit like a premier league player joining Rochdale, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any potential.
