Hard rock veterans Anthrax have just released a cover of Kansas‘ ‘Carry On Wayward Son’, which is part of their latest release on Megaforce Records; a box set vinyl.
You can stream and check out their take on the track below:
Originally recorded by Kansas in 1976, the classic song has its roots in thrash metal, so the influence this song will have had on Anthrax is undeniable. The introduction to the song is also reminiscent of a heavily-produced eighties hair metal classic, and is almost akin to a heavier Boston anthem. There are interesting melodic components achieved by Anthrax on this song, that seemingly draw influences from the progressive rock scene of the 1970s.
‘Carry On Wayward Son’ is included on Anthrax‘s vinyl collection ‘For All Kings’, which was released on March 24th. It is not cheap – coming in at nearly $80 – but is an essential for big Anthrax fans out there, and also features covers from other bands, including The White Stripes.
