Greek rockers 1000mods are back with their new album, ‘Youth Of Dissent’, which showcases their most mature music to date, and is a must listen for those into a 70s/90s mix of retro, hard, and doom rock mixed with some added grunge.

The record was produced by Matt Bayles (Isis, Mastodon, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Botch, and many more), and recorded at Studio Litho (owned by , founding member of Pearl Jam/Temple Of The Dog) and London Bridge Studio (where Pearl Jam‘s debut ‘Ten’ was recorded).

We had a quick word with them to talk about bands that have inspired them over the years.

1000mods chose five albums by bands who have recorded at Studio Litho and London Bridge Studio.

Recorded at Studio Litho

The last album of the 90’s-era-Soundgarden left its mark as one of their darkest albums. It’s also the first Soundgarden album I bought, when I was 15 years old. At first, I wasn’t able to understand its value. As the years passed by, I took the chance to listen to it carefully, over and over again, discovering its astonishing elements. The drum-beats, the vocal layers, the bass…they all sounded like a unit! But most of all, the vocal melodies Cornell came up with at that record were a huge inspiration for me.

Recorded at London Bridge Studios

I discovered Temple of the Dog much later than all the other Seattle bands. The vocal range of Cornell here reaches unspeakable levels. Also, the guitar tone of Stone Gossard is amazing. The album’s anniversary edition on Spotify has a demo song named ‘Black Cat’. Go and listen how amazingly distorted the vocals sound. It totally blew me away the first time I listened to it! One day I was singing the melody again and again and George (our guitarist) thought that I came up with it myself and told me how great it was! I told him that I wish I had come up with such a vocal line! To this day, we’ve listened to the song 100 times to say the least!
[Danis (Bass/Vocals)]

Partially recorded at London Bridge Studios

One more album that I listened to, when I was too young to understand its greatness. Once I paid attention (especially to the vocal melodies that Cantrell and Layne Staley were singing together) I didn’t know what hit me! My ears discovered a whole new world and songs like ‘Rooster’ and ‘Down in a Hole’ entered the list of my favourite songs ever! Period.

Recorded at Studio Litho

One of the most important albums made at Studio Litho, as well as a first-time experiment of mixing music genres such as rap, shoegaze, metal and punk. The outcome is a record with great drum-beats, bass-lines, guitar melodies and vocal lines. Certainly an inspiration to everyone that wants to experiment with music and discover new original sounds.

Partially recorded at Studio Litho

This is one of the first albums I ever bought, back in the 90’s, and one that made me dive deep into Pearl Jam‘s sound and legacy. ‘Yield’ was produced by the great Brendan O’Brien, engineered by Matt Bayles and recorded in both Studio Litho and Studio X (another legendary Seattle studio). These two studios, alongside London Bridge, are the ones responsible for some of the most important albums of the grunge era.
