Californian five-piece technical death metal band The Faceless have well and truly pushed themselves to the top of the game with their latest offering, ‘Authothesim’. The band’s third album is based around a concept derived from the album’s title; Authothesim is defined as as the worship of oneself and the belief of possession of a greater power.

Each song contains so many intricate and mesmerising riffs from guitarists Michale Keene (the last current founding member remaining in the band) and Wes Hauch. The way that they’re able
to lock in with the drums to creat such a powerful sound gives the tracks a crushingly brutal, but technically proficient edge.

It’s amazing how much they can come up with, keeping the ideas fresh and new. Wes Hauch‘s lead guitar licks are a standout. On his first album with the band, he has been able to truly define
himself as an intergret part of The Faceless, paticular highlights being on tracks ‘Accelerated Evolution’ and ‘The Hymn Of Sanity’, where he really shows all the talent he has available.

The band, rounded off by vocalist Geoffrey Ficco, bassist Evan Brewer and drummer Lyle Cooper, really have proven themselves to be an upcoming band destined for much more. Keep an eye out
for any upcoming releases.

The good thing about this album is that it actually manages to blend their desired genres together so cohesively and it doesn’t seem to be the same ideas or repetition throughout the songs; each song is as unique as the other. You discover so much more on each listen and the fact it’s not a tiring album, you want to put it on again and again.

The band show immense promise to become a much bigger and well know act. From start to finish, you draw great attention to the ‘Autotheism’, which is truly a great listen on each occasion. To sum up this album in one word: astounding.
