In today’s modern market of constantly revolving success and obscurity, it’s hard to see how many bands can achieve the a legendary status. Influencing and inspiring many acts since their inception over two decades ago, Sick Of It All have certainly acquired that title for themselves, and after a four year break, they’ve returned with ‘Wake The Sleeping Dragon!’.
Bounding in with straight up rebellious confrontation, ‘Self Important Shithead’ is a riotous attack on modern social networks and shallow ideals before declaring to them to “Fuck off and die.” Invoking similar outrage against the media is ‘Deep State’, which keeps up the tempo and ferocity while not over extending into a repetitive message by keeping to a flurry of political messages and defiance.
Ensuring that not all is lost in political annihilation, ‘Bull’s Anthem’ pushes up energetic punk with an Celtic-esque anthem that would be more expected from a band like Dropkick Murphys or Flogging Molly.
Instilling the rage and rebellion from the first second, ‘Inner Vision’ is a fast-paced and chaotic confrontation of thrash punk that, along with ‘The Crazy White Boy Shit’, delivers an impactful beginning that would be welcome on any opening of a hardcore album.
Being around as long as they have, Sick Of It All have stuck to their guns and retain the original passionate defiance since their beginning in the 1980s.
