Since when has putting an ‘x’ at the start and end of a word instantly made it more hardcore? Eatmewhileimhot! take the idea of that to the extreme by doing that to the name of their ‘album’ and with every single song title too. It doesn’t stop there though, as this band take the ideas and principles of what makes a hardcore band and hardcore music classified as so, and push it until it’s silly.

They’ve tried far too hard though, resulting in an ‘album’ that’s under 20 minutes in length and not at all funny or ironic in the slightest sense. It’s clear this isn’t a serious effort, and that’s absolutely fine and acceptable if you do that well. Eatmewhileimhot! are far from funny at any single moment throughout ‘xALBUMx’, and more accurately are just simply ridiculous.

Whether the band are talking about breakdowns and zombies (‘xDESTROYx’), or talking about vampires (‘xVAMPIRESx’) or even talking about moustaches (‘xMUSTACHEx’), the silly and far from serious nature of Eatmewhileimhot! is definitely in your face. To an extent this is fun, but in doses longer than 4 minutes at a time it becomes dull, boring and even painful to listen to.

Christofer Drew‘s vocals are one of the most irritating features and biggest crutch the band are facing. His pig squeals are clearly poor inhales, and throughout it’s not hard to see that he’s more or less bree-ing and squee-ing for the sake of bree-ing and squee-ing. Instrumentally ideas are there, but every ten seconds there’s a chug or a breakdown and it gets old and annoying fast.

Previous EP ‘All My Friends’ was a much more fun yet mature outing, and one that gave an impression of a bright future along with demo track ‘Mother May I’ between the two releases. ‘xALBUMx’ is just too silly and straightforward, lacking in ideas which makes for a release that ultimately just wasn’t worth releasing at all.
