TOP 10 ALBUMS OF 2018!

Bloody ‘ell! 2018 has just flew by, hasn’t it? Still, even with how strong last year was for new albums and releases, we’re pretty confident that somehow this year has managed to top it completely.

We here at DEAD PRESS! have pulled our minds and opinions together to carry out the excruciatingly difficult yet always enjoyable debate on what is the year’s cream of the crop, and the ten records below are what we truly believe are the top ten albums of 2018.

10.) As It Is – ‘The Great Depression’

Rating:

What we said about it:
“‘The Great Depression’ is by far As It Is’ best album, and not many will be able to argue with that. Important conversations about the romanticisation of poor mental health are conveyed perfectly, being both sincere and critical at the same time, all the while the album’s story is as engaging as its choruses are infectious.”

09.) Palm Reader – ‘Braille’

Rating:

What we said about it:
“It’s the sound of a band that have truly found their feet, and indisputably the highlight of their career so far. It may feel like Palm Reader have been around forever, but if this album is anything to go by, they’ve only just gotten started.”

08.) Casey – ‘Where I Go When I Am Sleeping’

Rating:

What we said about it:
“‘Where I Go When I Am Sleeping’ is the kind of album that resonates far beyond its immediate territory. The kind of album that is delivered with such finesse and maturity you’d think it was the work of a band far beyond their years.”

07.) The Wonder Years – ‘Sister Cities’

Rating:

What we said about it:
“This might not be The Wonder Years as you know them, but it’s The Wonder Years as you should know them. This is the band they were always supposed to be, it just took them a little while to get there.”

06.) Boston Manor – ‘Welcome To The Neighbourhood’

Rating:

What we said about it:
“‘Welcome To The Neighbourhood’ is in no lesser terms a masterpiece. There are very few records – particularly sophomore records – that are executed so meticulously and as captivatingly as this…”

05.) Don Broco – ‘Technology’

Rating:

What we said about it:
“Each track is equally as captivating as the next, with incredible vocals and production, and as a result a very potential 16-track and hour long slog turns into riff and hook-laden stepping stone in Don Broco’s climb to the top.”

04.) Deaf Havana – ‘Rituals’

Rating:

What we said about it:
“…’Rituals’ goes to show that Deaf Havana can dip in and out of a plethora of genres and still produce quality.”

03.) Rolo Tomassi – ‘Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It’

Rating:

What we said about it:
“…its message blurs between fragility and fury; between opulent and oppressive; between beauty and beast. That’s something the five-piece have masterfully crafted throughout their career…”

02.) Black Peaks – ‘All That Divides’

Rating:

What we said about it:
“If this is the sound of Black Peaks still honing their skills and finding their feet, the pure magnetism of ‘All That Divides’ proves it unquestionable that we’re witness to the rearing of one of the most promising bands of the past few decades.”

01.) Architects – ‘Holy Hell’

Rating:

What we said about it:
“Architects have grasped grief and despair with both hands, and have moulded those malevolent yet universally relatable entities into ‘Holy Hell’, their most dynamic and destructive work to date.”
