The beauty of pop-punk is that it’s the perfect gateway genre for kids to enter the world of alternative music. Growing up with bands like Simple Plan, All Time Low or We The Kings (depending on your generation) allows your appreciation of rock music to develop before finding it too ‘lame’ or ‘uncool’. Lately, a surge of more ragged, heavier pop-punk has emerged, with The Wonder Years and The Story So Far leading the line for an older, more diverse fanbase. Veara‘s ‘Growing Up Is Killing Me’ sits somewhere between these two ends of the spectrum, with a New Found Glory sound that appeals as a solid fast-paced punchy album as well as a fun guilty pleasure.
