It’s obvious from the gritty intro of ‘Youth’ that Up River have the potential to be the UK’s answer to Touché Amoré. The band’s dark approach to melodic hardcore may be all too familiar to some, but Lewis Johns‘ production and Alan Douches‘ mastering (Suicide Silence, Cannibal Corpse, Every Time I Die) may be one of the most likeable things about the record.

Formed in sunny Brighton, Up River have had themselves a busy 2011. Since their inception in February, they’ve gone about gathering friends and fans with their infectious take on hardcore, and it’s something that didn’t go unnoticed by labels within that genre. Anchors Aweigh Records signed up the four-piece and a new EP is set to come in the New Year. The band circa 2011 though sounds a little something like this demo.
