It’s late August, which means it’s about damn time the Hell On Earth Tour rolls back into town. Last year’s version was excellent, being headlined by the ever-impressive Every Time I Die meaning the bar has been set pretty high for this year. Unearth have been chosen to headline with a bunch of various hardcore bands on the support bill.

With 2008′s ‘The March’, Unearth created a new staple for all metalcore to be measured against. Three years later, and fifth album ‘Darkness In the Light’ has thrown up another sparring partner against the likes of Killswitch Engage, Lamb Of God and Chimaira. Recorded once again by KSE guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz, it’s more of the same from the Massachusetts bunch; more chugging guitars, more crunching breakdowns and more screamed vocals. Trevor Phipps continues on with his powerful roars, this time backed up more melodically by Ken Susi. The album also marks the addition of KSE drummer Justin Foley to the band.

There’s so many –core genres being generated out there that it’s becoming increasingly difficult to define the difference between each one, and in turn categorising a band’s musical style from it. Unearth from the US are quite simply straight-up metalcore, and with their latest 10-track record of blistering metalcore, they intend to march through the masses into a clearing to call their own.
