Ever since their explosive first major UK performance at Download Festival in 2005, Florida’s Trivium have always treated the UK as their home away from home, a country that helped catapult them onto the world stage. Now, on their final tour supporting their latest record, ‘In Waves’, before working on its follow up, we caught up with guitarist Corey Beaulieu to talk over a few things before their show in Manchester that night:
With a headlining bill already boasting of The Prodigy, Metallica and Black Sabbath, Donington’s annual Download Festival have just confirmed a set for 14 more bands to perform over the festival weekend this year.

That’s right folks, it’s time again for the Defenders Of The Faith Tour to tear through the UK and leave a trail of destruction behind them. Having hosted some of the biggest names in today’s metal scene (like Machine Head and Lamb Of God), this year is no exception. With a decent variety of bands, there is something here to suit everyone, plus the Academy is one of those perfect sized venues. Big enough to create an amazing atmosphere, yet small enough to still create a kind of intimate feel.
Following on from their previous video ‘In Waves’, Californian metallers Trivium have just released their new music video for ‘Built To Fall’. Check it out:
Back in 2005, Florida’s then hottest young export Trivium released their sophomore record ‘Ascendency’, and almost literally exploded all over the mainstream metal scene. This album was ushered further into the spotlight with mainstay anthems ‘Like Light To The Flies’, ‘A Gunshot To The Head Of Trepidation’ and most notably ‘Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr’. That album easily stood as one of the strongest releases in the genre that year, and indeed for years to come. Six years later, it still stands as Trivium‘s crowning achievement, and though latest offering ‘In Waves’ still doesn’t top it, it’s definitely the closest that the band have come to reaching that self-set bar.
Trivium are doing a live stream of their set at Wacken 2011 RIGHT NOW, which kicked off at 5:15pm and will run for approximately an hour. Check it out at www.ndr.de/unterhaltung/musik_konzerte/wacken/livestream/index.html
It is the biggest crowd the band have ever played (up to 80,000 metalheads) – their new album ‘In Waves’ came out today in Germany. They are doing 3 album release shows in 3 countries in 4 days – Germany today, London tomorrow, and the US on Monday.
Swedish metal masters In Flames have been confirmed as an addition towards the Metal Hammer Defenders Of The Faith tour, supporting headline act Trivium. Other bands that have also been added onto the tour’s bill are Ghost, Rise To Remain and Insense. Full dates of the tour can be seen below:
