FEATURE: A look into pop-punk throughout 2011 and its highlights!

We all know that the mainstream in the last few years have been dominated by manufactured boy bands, passing themselves off as more than mere pop bands by their ability to play instruments, and in some cases not even then. We all know who I’m talking about. They took pop-punk and soiled its good name, and warped it beyond recognition. However, something seems to have kicked in in 2011, are we growing tired of this mainstream bullshit fad? Probably not, but growing in the underground is a movement that is growing stronger and stronger by the day and is even starting to make its push for broader horizons.

LIVE: Leeds Festival @ Bramham Park, Leeds – Sunday (28/08/2011)

Date: August 28th, 2011
Venue: Bramham Park, Leeds

Note: As only two members of the site were able to review the festival weekend, we were sadly unable to cover every band performing throughout the festival.

One of the longest running popular music festivals in the UK, the Reading/Leeds Festival weekend is well reknowned and has been hugely popular since its inception. This year, we made an appearance at the Leeds site of the event, and what a (muddy) weekend it was. With the co-headline act appearing for Leeds having Pulp headline and close the festival, there’s nothing like a bit of nostalgia to end a fantastic weekend of music.

Note: As only a few members of the site were able to review the festival weekend, we were sadly unable to cover every band performing throughout the day.

Extended to a full three-day weekend and being one of the only festivals to be hosted at a wild animal park, Hevy is most definitely a unique beast that’s growing from strength-to-strength year after year since its creation. Now onto the second day of the weekend, all four stages of the festival were open for business, and our ears were open to the huge array of bands.

Note: As only three members of the site were able to attend the festival weekend, we were sadly unable to cover every band performing throughout the day.

The third and final day of the Sonisphere weekend brings to the table another day filled with brilliant acts sprawling across a range of different genres. With what might be Slipknot‘s final UK performance together (at least with the current line-up), it’s an emotional and iconic day for all maggots in attendance.

GALLERY: Sonisphere 2011 – Sunday (10/07/2011)

Hosted at the grounds of Knebworth, we got involved with the Sonisphere festivities now that the event has been extended to a three-day weekend with all of its stages. Finishing off the weekend with a bang, the festival managed to bag a slot from comedian Bill Bailey, and also what could potentially be Slipknot‘s final UK performance. Though we weren’t allowed photo access to the Apollo and Saturn stages to take shots of the big guns, our snappy photographer did manage to catch all the other great action across the arena.

Featuring: Cancer Bats, Alestorm, Floods, The Answer, Sonic Boom Six, Orange Goblin, Amplifier, Mad Dog, Kylesa, InMe, Arcane Roots, Turbowolf, Bat Sabbath, Title Fight, Bill Bailey,

ALBUM: Title Fight – Shed

Release Date: May 3rd, 2011

After a procession of warmly received EPs and 7 inches, it’s fair to say that a debut full-length from Title Fight was eagerly anticipated. Charming listeners with their unmistakable brand of punk tinged hardcore, the band have on ‘Shed’ delivered an album which both meets and inflates on expectations, pushing a more all encompassing approach to their craft. Yet, this is not too say that Title Fight have lost any of their bite and snarl.
