It seems as if The Stranglers have been around forever, and I suppose they have. Since 1974, they’ve been a band who’ve resonated in and around the punk movement and in their hey-day, punk went hand-in-hand with controversy. Punk was punk back then; now, it’s just a stretched shadow of what it used to be. Onstage strippers, walk-outs and brawls were a common occurrence with a young The Stranglers. Not to mention bassist J.J. Burnel punching the punk writer Jon Savage because he gave their album ‘No More Heroes’ a shitty review. Burnel must be a real hard-man, because he also held another music writer hostage backstage, threatening to throw him into the baying crowd.
