With its debut year about to take play, Liverpool’s Radstock Festival is pretty much the first music festival of the year. What makes it a special one however is that almost every single band (with one or two exceptions) featured on the line-up is British, a rarity nowadays. Spread across three stages, we had to catch what could well be the beginning of a long lasting festival to come.

With a steadily increasing fan base, Welsh natives Straight Lines have been making quite the impression and breaking onto the music scene. If this latest offering is anything to go by, this band could soon be on that long list of great bands that such a small country has managed to churn out. This short but sweet record really shows this band’s potential, will definitely win over some new fans and pave the way for their next release.

Returning for a second year and bringing in a fifth stage from The Forum just down the road, Hit The Deck Festival had once again brought a stellar line-up to the city of Nottingham to which rock, punk, metal and hardcore fans across the nation travelled far and wide to be a part of. With headliners across the stage consisting of Kids In Glass Houses, Cancer Bats, Rolo Tomassi and Zebrahead, it’s fair to say the Nottingham day festival was successful for a second year running.

In the last decade, Wales has given birth to a wide range of eclectic and – in many cases – beloved bands with who proudly fly the flag. Lostprophets and Funeral For A Friend can be thanked for kicking off this phase of British rock music, giving the incentive to Bullet For My Valentine, Kids In Glass Houses, The Blackout and many more to push out of what most called ‘dreary home towns’, get in the van and tour the world. The latest in this long line of passionate purveyors is Pontypridd’s Straight Lines, and with their second album ‘Freaks Like Us’, they’re definitely heading on the right track.
