Jeff Hanneman, guitarist and founding member of thrash metal legends Slayer, has tragically passed away at the age of 49. After a period out of the band with a serious spider bite from which he contracted necrotizing fasciitis in February 2011, the guitarist died at 11:00AM on May 3rd 2013 from liver failure. Note: As only three members of the site were able to attend the festival weekend, we were sadly unable to cover every band performing throughout the day.
Extended to a full three-day weekend with just the Saturn stage not used on the Friday, the first day of musical entertainment at this year’s Sonisphere brings a bloody big attraction: The Big 4. With their first ever appearance over in the UK, the festival sure has a pretty impressive exclusive amongst the rest of the country’s festivals, and for all thrash metal fans this surely the makings of a wet dream come true.

This year’s Sonisphere festival in Knebworth has added more bands to their line-up today. Weezer, Architects and Airbourne have all been confirmed as exclusive festival appearances. Along with this, Diamond Head will also be joining The Big 4 (Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer) during their headline performance on the Friday evening of the weekend festival.

For their first time ever in the UK, The Big Four (Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax) are to headline Sonisphere Festival 2011 at Knebworth. The four bands will share a headlining slot on the Friday of the festival weekend, with Biffy Clyro and Slipknot to follow the two days afterwards.
