The Dome in North London is a really charming little venue. At 500 capacity, it’s the bigger sibling of sister venue Boston Music Rooms next door, and manages to feel more spacious than the similar sized Camden Underworld whilst lacking none of the intimacy. Tonight, it’ll play home to Canadian hardcore five-piece Counterparts, who seem to have amassed quite a following this side of the pond, if the queue outside the door is anything to go by.

Lurking in the grey area between crushing metal violence and the more aggressive end of post-hardcore, the cross-pollinated approach of Surrey five piece POLAR. offers further evidence that the UK is still developing its own unique strain of contemporary heaviness. With giant hooks and savage metallic weight in abundance, ‘No Cure No Saviour’ is not only the best record we have seen from the band yet, but perhaps the year’s leading example of modern British fury.
