Catering to their hipster side, this quaint little EP is available on 7″ vinyl. But, just in case you aren’t from the 50s and don’t own a record player, ‘Making Moves’ is also available as digital download. Having just released a full-length album, ‘Go’, I’m not quite sure why they have released this EP so soon. Oh well, who am I to question these things? Besides, any new from music Motion City Soundtrack is always a good thing.

As I return to the gloomy skies of Manchester for my ominous looking fourth year at university, what better way to kick the semester off than by going to see one of my favourite bands of all time, Motion City Soundtrack. Having not long released their fifth studio album, ‘Go’, the band are eager for the fans to hear their new tunes in a live environment. Not to mention that the gig was moved from the roomy Academy 2 to the much smaller venue of Academy 3, which is a bonus because MCS thrive in a cosy and intimate environment.

I was more than pleased to find out that pop-punk favourites Motion City Soundtrack have returned to the music scene with their fifth album offering, ‘Go’. It’s an album that sees the band take a far mellower approach than they have on previous records (not too dissimilar to the one Jimmy Eat World took with ‘Invented’). Unfortunately, this new favouring of pop over the punk aspects of their sound is on the whole underwhelming and causes the album to fall a little flat. This could be a move that may disappoint some fans.

Having taken off a bit of time so they could write some new material, Motion City Soundtrack are now well rested and eager to please. Tonight’s gig is somewhat of a special one, where Manchester was voted the number one place for the band to perform (other than the two London shows the nights before). Playing in the intimate venue that is the Ruby Lounge, I for one am very excited to see them again.

Manchester have won a one-off performance from US pop-punk outfit Motion City Soundtrack following a pledge driven competition set by the band, where they invited fans to pick a city of their choice and back it with a £10 ticket pledge. The first city to reach 150 pledges was rewarded with a one-off gig at an intimate city venue, and Manchester won. More details below:
