‘Money Men’ is the follow-up to Kick Up The Fire‘s 2010 self-titled EP, and since then it appears that a few changes have been made. ‘Loaded’ opens up the EP with a nice use of subtle guitar effects and complimenting melodies, though at times it seems a little thinned out. The vocals also seem a bit empty compared to their first EP, losing any kind of post-hardcore/rock feel they had going before. I feel this is a shame as they run the risk of turning into ‘just another indie band’. The track moves along at some pace, but with no real changes it becomes slightly predictable. It’s a pleasant listen, but that’s as far as it goes.

Rating:

Judging from the EP cover artwork, you wouldn’t be considered a fool for thinking perhaps Kick Up The Fire are a bit of an immature band, but in fact that isn’t at all true. You’d also think a band featuring ex-members of metal acts Johnny Truant and Down I Go couldn’t possibly create the indie rock you find on this EP, but they do, and it sounds like this has been their proper calling that’s just been hidden away over the years in their previous projects.
