This won’t be a review in the traditional sense. Instead, I’m highlighting an example of a dying breed of music. I’ll start with the basics: the name. Upon researching, Karybdis is the Swedish spelling and pronunciation of the Greek mythological monster, Charybdis. The reason for using the Swedish version is beyond me, seeing as the 5-piece hail from London. Maybe it’s a nod towards the Swedish death metal scene, possibly even with a sense of irony, but I highly doubt it. Secondly, the album title is chronically generic for a modern metal band.
