FEATURE: The MySpace Generation: Where Are They Now?

In February, the social media giant that is Facebook celebrated their 12 year anniversary. Back before the days when Facebook ruled the roost (yeah, we’re going back a bit now), MySpace was the social media daddy.

Sure, if you were a regular MySpace user, you probably recall the intense amounts of huge fake hair with multiple colours, the range of ‘scene’ names where you’d include anything mildly gory or dangerous if it wasn’t “RAWR”, whore trains, a plethora of bulletins asking for PC4PC/S4S/W4W/etc or telling you to repost something or you’ll die, amongst others. However, one of the things that kept MySpace such a interesting prospect from its inception to its dwindling demise from about 2008 onwards was what it did for music.

Now with three full-length albums to their name, A Skylit Drive are finally in a position to go on their own headline tour across the UK, and with them they’ve brought along three American support acts who will be making their first ever live appearance on British shores. Though it isn’t quite sold out, a huge queue files up outside the Academy venue in Manchester, all hyped up to catch the US legion that compose the evening’s line-up.

One thing that should always be kept in mind with I Set My Friends On Fire is that they shouldn’t be taken completely seriously. For just a few examples, take a look at their band name, some of their song titles such as ‘Erectangles’ and ‘Excite Dyke’, the album’s artwork, and of course some of their choices of lyrics; “Cumming is one of my favourite things to do”. Even from the very beginning, it was clear that their infamous cover of ‘Crank That’ that ISMFOF weren’t a band to take with all seriousness.
