Establishing yourself away from the crowd in a scene as overpopulated as metalcore can pose a major challenge to bands yet to make a name for themselves. With their first effort, ‘Metrics’, Virginia’s Honour Crest looked to assimilate themselves into the sound of their peers, unfortunately neglecting to make fresh steps of their own. ‘Spilled Ink’ seeks to rectify this with a heavier focus on complex songwriting and abundant use of synth to augment their sound. The result is a serviceable slab of electronica-heavy djent.
