There’s not many festivals out there who are situated near the grounds of a wild animal park (or, simply a zoo), let alone also supply a full weekend worth of some of the most talented punk, rock and hardcore bands that are around today. With a small and intimate festival site to boot, Hevy is easily one of the best independent weekend music festivals the UK has to offer. We went along to catch all the bands, the animals and the partying they had to offer:

Note: As only two members of the site were able to review the festival weekend, we were sadly unable to cover every band performing throughout the festival.
One of the longest running popular music festivals in the UK, the Reading/Leeds Festival weekend is well reknowned and has been hugely popular since its inception. This year, we made an appearance at the Leeds site of the event, and what a (muddy) weekend it was. With the co-headline act appearing for Leeds having Pulp headline and close the festival, there’s nothing like a bit of nostalgia to end a fantastic weekend of music.

Unless you’ve been living in a hole for the last 18 years, you will have no doubts over who Glassjaw are and what they do. They’re a band who needs no introduction, and any that I try and give them will not be able to do them justice. To those in the know, they’re probably known as the original post-hardcore band as well as possibly one of the finest. They have inspired many a contemporary to try and follow in their footsteps, not many have succeeded. Following their long hiatus, this is a release that is meant to long anticipated forthcoming full-length album, and if this EP is anything to go by it should be one of the strangest releases of 2011.

To most of their hugely dedicated fanbase, GlassJaw are more or less the dons of the post-hardcore scene. They started it all, and brought the passion and intensity that is all too often lost in the genre as we know it today. With a wait of just over 8 years of brand new material since second full-length ‘Worship & Tribute’, the New York 4-piece are finally back with something new and fresh: ‘Our Color Green (The Singles)’.
